Wafting cigarette smoke in hotel room, shattered window due to riots, bumpy, turbulent plane ride...but it was all worth the wonderful trip to Spain that I just took with my husband and my oldest son.
We had to leave the hotel window cracked open, it was hot and there was not an air conditioner. We were located just above a bustling city street. Men seemed to gather and loiter just below our window while drinking and smoking during each and every hour through out the nights. I have learned the great glory of ear plugs during this trip. I highly recommend them!
The government decided to take certain funding away from universities which made the students understandably angry--this resulted in protesting and riots while we were trying to vacation-my son and I had to depart our luxurious tour bus half way through the tour due to paddy wagons closing off the streets. We muddled our way back to the hotel ourselves. My son was a natural with directions and guided us directly back. I would probably still be navigating my way right now instead of writing this.
The last complaint would be the rocky, turbulent airplanes rides (notice I say RIDES as it was ALL of them). Only the grace of God got me through that. Praise Him!
Now for the wonderful side of the trip! My favorite part was being with my son for a week, laughing, talking and exploring together. We are close as it is, but I feel like we got to know each other even better and we sure did create fun memories together.
An added surprise was that my husband got to spend more time than we expected with us. We were tagging along with him on his business trip to the Mobile World Congress Conference; 60,000 attenders. He made it known that we would most likely have to do without his presence until Thursday (having arrived Monday). Turned out we got to enjoy him during dinner each and every night with him getting off work early on Thursday. I love my husband and I love hanging out with him.
On top of all that we got to explore many of Barcelona's famous landmarks like Casa Mila, one of Gaudi's most popular building creations, the Segrada Familia Basilica (still being constructed after 120 years), Monserrat, which we had to take a cable car up to (little scary) ...and we encountered several original Picasso's and a Flemenco dance!
Thank you Jason for taking us to Spain! What a blessing the whole experience was.
